The siege over, people start to venture from their homes,
Still a little nervous and some battle weary
We had heard news of a new step on Monmouth Beach,
Not a manmade step into another house,
No one wants to visit another house,
No, everyone wants out.
No, not a manmade step, but a geological step.
A drop further down into the sea, off the shore
Exposed by the battle that has raged day after day,
The oceanic explosions, the bombardment and relentless attack of
The wind, the rain, the hail and the mountainous waves.
But now after just one short day the sun is shining.
The sea glistens and gently laps up to the shore.
At the same time scavenge for salvage
To mark the occasion, to celebrate the sunshine.
We found the step down into the seabed,
But it is manmade, isn’t it.
